Maer Wilson Introduces--Ghosts of Modern Magics

Welcome Maer Wilson and her box set of fantastic novels. I am delighted to have her here with us today. She's one busy lady and phenomenal author... say hello!

Ghosts of Modern Magics

Before magic returned to Earth in the Modern Magics novels, Thulu and La Fi’s clients were usually the dead. The Ghost novelettes detail a few of their more memorable cases.

“Ghost Memory” - An amnesiac ghost hires Thulu and La Fi to find missing money from his home for his aging husband.

“Unwanted Ghost” - The couple inherits a furnished Victorian, complete with its own noisy ghost.

“Ghost Dancer” - Young Danika asks Thulu and La Fi to save her dog from the killer who murdered her.

“Wedding Ghost” - Just before their own wedding, the detectives are hired to find out what happened to another bride ninety years before.

BONUS MATERIAL

“Lost Ghost” tells the story of eleven-year-old Thulu and Fiona’s first case.

This collection also includes samples from the Modern Magics novels - Relics, Portals and the upcoming Magics.

This collection is currently on sale at Amazon.

Ghosts of Modern Magics will be available soon from other online retailers. For updates or information about the rest of the Modern Magics series, please check Maer’s website.

Supernatural boundaries will be crossed as Angel of Death, Nathaniel Evans, risks his eternal soul to save the one he loves, the paranormally gifted and nature-loving, Juliana Crowson. While working with a new client, Nathaniel finds out that pissing off a demon-wielding warlock in order to help a suicidal teen with misplaced sexual tendencies may be the last thing he ever does as an angel. Unable to stand aside, Juliana’s involvement in Nathaniel’s new case quickly develops into a misadventure with gun-toting bikers, table dancing, and a shamanic exorcism performed by her temperamental Native American friend, Chris Abeyta. Can Nathaniel and Juliana’s love endure blood-letting rituals in the forest while helping a terrified teen find the will to live, or will fate and the rules of the afterlife tear them eternally apart?

Read an Excerpt from the Novel:

I reach for her left hand and she lets me take it. “I only want to keep you safe. Is that all right?” She bites her lower lip and then looks up at me. “You can’t be everywhere all the time, can you?” “No. But for you, I wish I could be.” “Certain things are out of our control.” “That doesn’t mean I have to like it, but I know. You asked me what the matter was earlier. This is it. I realized anything could happen to you and I can’t control it. We have just started to know each other. It terrified me, and now this.” I glance down at her red finger. “Nathan. I, you…we just have to stay in the moment. This,” She holds up her index finger showing me the swollen side and the drying blood, “is a perk of my job. Not a deadly accident. If anything does happen to me, or you, at least we knew each other. Even for a short time. Right?” “Getting injured on the job is not a perk, it’s a hazard,” I argue. Our relationship is just starting, so no. A short time is not good enough for me. When I’m with Juliana I can only imagine eternity together, not minutes. The way she stares at me, with caring eyes, and her kissable mouth, it’s so innocent and alive. It makes me want to lock her away in a cell with both of us inside and never see any threat or harm come near her again. “I want you, Juliana. I want to know you. I want to see your face in the morning light and be with you until you fall asleep at night. I want to hold your hand as we walk in these woods, not just today, but always. What I don’t want, what I can’t live with, is a collection of fading memories and a well full of regret.” I watch her closely looking for any shift of uneasiness as I pour out my soul to her. She looks up at me. Her face is open and the honesty I see echoes my own. “We will know each other,” she assures me, and then she seals her words by leaning forward on her tiptoes and brushing her perfect pink lips over mine.

Introducing Images Eternal by Toni Decker

The great thing about being an author is the family of other authors in our network and getting to introduce them. I am proud to announce the long awaited, debut release of an exciting book, Images Eternal by good friend(s), Toni Decker.

Who is Toni Decker?

Two authors telling one sizzling story after another about twenty-somethings getting along in their own crazy, fantastical worlds. Both women are wives and mothers, sharing brain cells and characters as if they only exist with the other.
Toni, one half of the Toni Decker brain, is an avid reader of all things Young and New Adult while Kira, the Decker half of Toni Decker brain, devours fantasy for midnight snacks.

Co-writing together, we leave it up to the readers to guess who writes which character *grin*

Images Eternal is available now on Amazon, Kobo and Barnes & Noble as of September 15th.

If Images are worth a thousand words, hers sing a thousand Eternal songs

The Blurb:
The blood of a Guardian, the heart of an artist, no one can hide the truth from Amanda Hayworth. Focusing her visions through her camera lens, she reveals secrets no one plans to expose, even her own. To protect herself, Mandy hides her ability in plain sight, photographing local bands and showcasing the dramatic images on her website. Most bands beg for a feature article. But the new lead singer of one particular up and coming band isn’t like anyone she’s ever met. Lucien entangles her with his mystery and makes Mandy want things she’s never wanted before—strings.
Lucien Solvak has to impress an influential music blogger whose promotion could skyrocket his new band to stardom or flush them straight into the gutters. But the moment Mandy aims her camera his direction, he fears the images will expose his ties to the immortal he’s sworn to protect and destroy his one chance to live out his musical dream. Hiding from her camera is tough enough. Denying his growing feelings becomes an impossible feat, forcing Lucien to choose between oaths as a Guardian, his rock-star dreams, and the girl he wants.

Secrets define them. Lucien’s bind him to silence; Mandy’s bring her nothing but pain and disappointment. Only when they focus on what’s behind the images can they embrace their secrets for what they are—truth.

I loved this excerpt from Images Eternal:

The Next Big Thing

A big THANK YOU to writer Carlene Love Flores, author of Sidewalk Flower (coming in January 2013 from Evernight), for inviting me to participate in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. You can click on over to Carlene's blog where she will answer the same ten questions about her fantastic book in progress, Sin's Flower, that I will be answering about my work in progress.

The Next Big Thing was started by blogger She Writes to help authors promote their current work in progress by answering ten questions and then “tagging” a few other women writers inviting them to share the status of their own current works in progress. My answers are below, followed by links to the writer friends I’ve “tagged” for The Next Big Thing.

1. What is the working title of your book? Right now, "Intoxicating Spirit"

2. Where did the idea for your book come from? In a unique, round about way. I needed a free-read 500 word or less ghost, short story for my wonderful group, Waterworld Mermaids in October. I had no idea what to write until one of my mermaid sisters suggested using one of my minor characters from my book, "Wanted: One Ghost" which is coming out, June 2013 with Crescent Moon Press. I liked my free-read character, Millie Taylor so much--and the story, that I had a great idea to start a sequel with November's, NaNoWriMo program.

3. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?  A two hundred year old tavern maid is brought to life in 2012 and falls in love with the local police officer who saw her as a ghost. But is their love short lived when the tavern Millie's been a part of for two centuries is destined to be demolished? (I guess that's two sentences. Oh, well.)

4. What genre does your book fall under? Paranormal/Fantasy Romance

5. What actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? When I started the idea it was before he became People's Sexiest Man, Channing Tatum as Sean Lightfoot. As far as Millie Taylor, either Amy Smart or perhaps Scarlet Johannson.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? Planning to submit it for a sequel to "Wanted: One Ghost" to Crescent Moon Press.  I can only hope.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Thirty days, give or take a few. I did most of it with 2012 NaNoWriMo competition and became a winner again! (I did NaNo back in 2010 for Wanted: One Ghost--only fitting I would do so again.)

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I was honored during a pitch session with Wanted:One Ghost back a few years ago to have it compared to Jude Deveraux's, "A Knight in Shining Armor" (one of my favorite books ever). This one, not sure yet and not sure I would put it up against any other. It's definitely an honor when people can place it--but I can't because I feel every book is unique, no matter who writes it. I can't give myself credit to think that I'm up there to be compared to the wonderful authors who've paved the way.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book? My theme is based on fate. Fate drives us all in the direction that we are supposed to be...sometimes against our better judgement. In this case, as I said early in question #2 my mermaid sisters had a pretty big influence in this step...but it was my Muse at 2 a.m. one Saturday morning in September that drove the plot and premise. The characters just take over.

10. What else about your book might pique readers interest?  I write a lot about paranormal/metaphysics and ideas that may or may not hold scientific ideals for those who study and believe strongly in these issues. My books are about 'what if...' fiction and putting two people together at great odds. They are light, fun reads. Don't try to over-analyze.

Marne Ann Kirk's, Goddess on the Run out now from Crescent Moon Press

All I had to do was read the excerpt (below) to know I want to add this to my list of books I need to read. Teagan is a woman who doesn't put up with crap!  I already like her and I'm eager to find out what kind of trouble she gets into...

Goddess On The Run

A Tale of the Holy Water Warriors, Book 1

Available now on Amazon, B&N, and at your local bookstore!

Crescent Moon Press

ISBN: 978-1-937254-59-9

E-ISBN: 978-1-937254-60-5

All Fomorian Hells are about to break loose on earth, making human souls the daily special, if the Tuatha de Danaan can’t stop it.

Teagan, a Celtic demi-goddess hiding from her destiny in small-town Colorado, wants nothing to do with her mother’s forgotten realm or the drama of a battle of the gods. And Merric is forbidden fruit she’s too smart to taste.

Merric, leader of the Tuatha de Danaan warriors, has other plans. Teagan holds the key to salvation, for both him and their worlds, whether she wants to or not. He’ll do whatever it takes to convince her of her duty.

But can he find the key to her heart?

Reviews:

“Goddess On the Run has everything a reader could ask for—Teagan, a heroine gutsy yet vulnerable, Merric, a hero willing to die for his soulmate and their child, and a High Deamon threatening to destroy the thing they hold most dear. Kirk has fashioned a story both action-packed and romantic with characters that will stay with you long after their adventure is over.” Jeanne Stein, Best-Selling Author of the Anna Strong Chronicles

Excerpt to Goddess on the Run:

Chapter One

Great. Just fan-friggen-tabulous. Not even halfway through her shift and Teagan had an ass-grabber.

Another one.

Of course, this moron's lack of respect for personal boundaries was why she'd gotten this table of five. The girls had named her The Enforcer for a reason.

She'd let him play for a moment. He wasn't hurting her, after all. But soon he'd pay, and she'd make certain it did hurt him.

Yep, a little public humiliation, and he’d never touch another lady without her permission again.

But first, money. A girl had to have her priorities.

"Can I get you boys anything else?" she asked, setting a Corona in front of each of them.

The Friday night band sang their standard classic, "Friends in Low Places," and several patrons whooped or sang along. Lively crowd tonight--at least a couple hundred cowboys, college kids, tourists, and locals were bound to mean good tips. Everyone was lookin' for love.

Blondie, the man sitting across the table from where she stood, smiled and tossed down a hundred dollar bill. "Tequila shots?"

Mr. Hands, on her left, inched his grope further up the back of her inner thigh. If he went any higher, he'd be fondling parts of her only seen by her doctor and her vibrator.

She snapped her teeth into a grin, ignoring Mr. Hands, as she pulled the Jose Gold from one holster on her costume’s gun-slinger's belt and six shot glasses from the cartridge loops on the other hip. Between the rowdy saloon atmosphere and the waitressing costumes--leather vest, gunfighter's belt over short-shorts, Stetson cowboy hat and boots--it was no surprise Tommie's Knockers drew the largest crowd in the Canyon.

Someone cursed a stream of words his mama would’ve washed his mouth out for, on the other side of the main stage. Chaos exploded in the far section of the bar as a chair shattered and a beer bottle exploded--probably on some poor fool’s head.  A girl screamed and Teagan straightened up, glancing over. The bouncers didn’t need her help, though. Six were already hustling over and stepping in, pulling two men apart and bringing things back to order. It was under control.

So why did she feel on edge tonight? Like all hells were about to break loose.

"If you're buying one for me too, sugar," she said, shaking it off and bringing her attention back to Blondie.

When he nodded, she twisted the cap off the bottle, pouring tequila into each glass before sliding them around. The shot glass she slid to Mr. Hands barely stayed on the table. Damn. She'd hoped to distract him from his blind-man's examination of her butt--no such luck.

Nope. Yesteryear’s Quarterback just kept on going with one hand, like her backside was his winning season’s playbook.

She lifted her shot, saluted the men, and tossed it back. Oh, it burned good. Too bad her kind couldn't get drunk on human alcohol. She could use a little something right now. Something to dull the sudden itch along her spine, urging her to run without motive. She wasn't fooled. Whenever she had that itch, there was a reason.

She forced herself to smile at Blondie as she set her shooter back on the table, then tipped her head so she could surreptitiously study the bar through the shield of her bangs.

Several men milled about the dance floor, looking uncomfortable and awkward, while couples danced the two-step around them. Nothing out of place about that in a bar.

Blondie slid the Franklin across the table and tapped her hand. "Keep the change."

"Why thanks, baby. If you need anything at all, raise your hand. See the brunette, Kelly, over by the bar? She'll see to your every need." Teagan slipped the bill into a pocket inside her vest.

Time to play enforcer, and just in time. She needed to clean this mess up and go on break, if for no other reason than to unwind and figure out why she felt this strung out. If she were human, she’d worry she’d been slipped something, she was so twitchy.

Was it a full moon tonight?

She turned to face Mr. Hands, leaning down slow and low, until his eyes were level with her cleavage.

He grabbed the sides of his chair, leaning closer to her.

Right where she wanted his hands--off her body.

She let her hair fall over one shoulder. "Sweetie, sometimes a little naughty is nice, but every so often, naughty goes, well, too far. Then it’s time for a little lesson in manners. Are you up for a--” She licked her upper lip, sliding her hand up his thigh until she almost brushed the bulge in his jeans. “Lesson?”

He flushed, throwing a victorious grin at his friends. "With a body as hot as you? Hell, you can teach me manners any time."

She brought her mouth to his ear as the band finished their song. Perfect timing.

"Then here's lesson one, hon," she said in a stage whisper all his buddies would hear. She wrapped his package in her palm and squeezed her hand into a fist around it--hard.

"Touch me or one of the other girls again--," she tightened her grip even more.

His eyes bulged in pain, but he sat frozen in place. Men tended to do that when you had them by the baby brains.

"One more time, and I’ll tear your nut sack from your body and feed it to an alley cat."

Such language, but some jerks were also stupid and only understood crass.

Keeping him firmly in hand, she looked at his friends and tilted her head. "I'd feed it to the dog, but she'd barely notice the swallow."
