Title: Shoalman Immortal

Falling in love was never supposed to be part of the picture.

Kyrissa Spears was born with a powerful, and deadly, gift. When she paints, she captures emotions so strong they can kill. Desperate to find a teacher capable of helping her unlock and control her abilities, Kyrissa's search leads her to an artist who may be able to help her. And he's the one person she can't accidentally kill.

After five centuries of pain and loneliness, Robert Shoalman craves release from his immortality. He's all but given up hope until he meets the beautiful and intriguing Kyrissa. She could paint his death and break the curse, but at the cost of destroying her gift and being lost to him forever—none of which will matter if the demon hunting him finds them first.

Excerpt

          "You
keep telling me to trust my feelings." Kyrissa ran her finger along his
lower lip. "Trust yours."

          His
mouth sought hers, the taste of her lips more exquisite than the finest wine.
He drank her in, wanting more of her intoxicating apples and mint flavor, as
well as the one that was just her. The one found only in her kiss. Burying his
face in her hair, he pulled her closer, lips trailing down her neck and across
her collarbone.

          Pulling
the fitted shirt from his jeans, her hands slid up his back and sides. Each
touch on his skin left him burning. Reclaiming Kyrissa's mouth with his, Robert
fumbled with the buttons on the front of his shirt, feeling her smile when she
tried to help him, both of them making it worse.

          "Damn
it to hell," Robert broke the kiss, pushing up to his knees to rip the
shirt open. The patter of buttons danced across the floor like rain.

          "Robert!"
Kyrissa laughed at his impulsive action.

          "What
good is money if I cannot afford to ruin a shirt?" He grinned. "Especially
if it is for the right reasons." He'd ruin shirts every day if she would
look at him the way she was now.

          Kneeling
in front of him, Kyrissa used her hands to push the shirt off his shoulders
while her mouth trailed kisses along his chest. "You could have just
pulled it over your head," she teased, fingers working to pull open the
cuffs.

          "I
thought women expected displays like that," Robert fumbled, distracted by
her hands and mouth. In his day, affairs were slower, more reserved. He enjoyed
these times better. The women were bolder. More passionate.

          "I
could get that male bravado bullshit from any pickup in a bar." Her eyes
devoured him. "I want you."

          "Good."

Behold--SACRIFICED by Courtney Farrell

I'm so happy to announce Courtney Farrell has followed up her YA novel ENHANCED with its sequel, SACRIFICED. I can't wait to read it! But until then, let me share a little about Courtney and her latest novel.

Courtney Farrell was once a molecular biologist, but her habit of daydreaming destroyed far too
many experiments. Writing down the movies in her head turned out to be a lot more fun than lab work. Courtney is the author of three novels and fourteen nonfiction books for young people, mostly on social and environmental topics. She lives with her family on a Colorado ranch where they support a barn full of freeloading animals, including a fat draft horse and a bunch of crazy chickens.

You can say hello to Courtney at her hang-outs:

Sacrificed-- the exciting sequel to Enhanced
By Courtney Farrell

At the Institute, they breed the best and kill the rest. Sixteen-year-old Michelle is a survivor, but she’s a pawn in their game. A remote arctic military base mysteriously goes silent. The Institute’s founder needles his old enemy, the colonel, by sending teenagers to help. Michelle’s half-breed boyfriend Dillon makes the team, along with her hot ex, who won’t give her up. At the base, Norms attack. The rebels capture Michelle, but they’re not the brutal savages she imagined. Their cause is a just one. Will she take up arms against her own kind?
Meanwhile, Dillon faces his own temptations. As a half-breed, he’d never succeed at Headquarters, but military doctors think he’s special. The colonel offers him a sweet deal, with money, status, and beautiful girls. All Dillon has to do is wipe out the Norms who are harboring Michelle.

You can check out SACRIFICED here on Amazon.

Off to read my copy of  SACRIFICED but before I do, here is a bit of a teaser/excerpt from Courtney Farrell's, SACRIFICED:

Sunshine beamed down on a flower-filled meadow. Dillon sat cross-legged on the grass, the focal point in a circle of teenage girls and young women. Most of them were beauties, and Dillon was the only man there. Under the circumstances, he couldn’t enjoy it much.
“Dillon, tell them what you told me,” Tina said. “About my little sister and the other missing girls.”
Dillon tried to talk but his throat tightened up. He managed to choke out a few words. “They…aren’t coming back.”
Tina only waited a couple of heartbeats before she got impatient and told the story herself. “The same thing happens to all the missing girls. Creepy doctors get them pregnant with more of those . . . those . . .”
“Enhanced,” Dillon supplied.
“Enhanced babies. They’re transferred from women who think they’re too perfect,” Tina spat the word, “for pregnancy.”
“Eeuw,” a girl murmured. “They can do that?”
“That is jus’ wrong,” another girl said, shaking her head.
Dillon interrupted the cross talk. “After the babies are born, they don’t need the mothers any more. We don’t know for sure, but we think they probably kill them.”
A collective gasp rose up from the circle of women. A few of the younger ones began to cry.
Dillon squirmed under the pressure of a dozen pairs of eyes. They’re expecting me to have all the answers, and I don’t. “I’ve got a plan, though. It’s scary as hell, but if you help me, we might be able make it work.”
“Scary as hell?” Tina repeated, with a trace of her old abrasive manner.
Dillon wilted under the women’s dubious stares. “Well, um, yeah. This might be kind of half-baked, but it’s all I can think of. I have two ideas, and they both start the same way. A bunch of girls, all alone in the woods—except for the men hiding all around them.”
“Oh, shit!” Tina exclaimed. “We’re the bait.”
Dillon nodded. “Yeah. So, like I said, we can do this one of two ways. The first way’s less scary, but also less likely to be successful.”
“Just tell us what it is, Dillon,” Tina snapped.
“Okay. I need you girls to go off in the woods. Light a big fire. Sing and drum, make yourselves real obvious out there. I’m betting Enhanced soldiers will show up and try to grab you.” Dillon waited for the moans to die down before continuing. “They’ll dart you from the trees with tranquilizer guns. If you get hit, you’ll pass out. Then they haul you off. We can try and prevent that, shooting ‘em as they arrive. But they’ll scatter and run, and it’ll be hard to see them in the dark. Besides, they have night-vision goggles and fully automatic rifles, and we don’t. A bunch of us could die.”
“Probably will, you mean. What’s your other plan?” Tina asked. “Because I don’t care what it is, I’ll take it. Just about anything would be better than that.”
Dillon winced. “My other plan is…we let them dart you.”
All the girls cried out at once. “What! Why?”
“A man’s a lot easier to catch with a girl over his shoulder.”
Tina swore. “I hate you, Dillon.”
“Yeah, I know. Sorry.” Dillon got to his feet, shoulders slumped. “You don’t have to do this, you know. Talk it over. Find me once you decide.”
Tina spoke slowly through clenched jaws, her words clipped. “Sit down. I already decided. I’ll take the fucking dart.”

If Images are worth a thousand words, hers sing a thousand Eternal songs

The Blurb:
The blood of a Guardian, the heart of an artist, no one can hide the truth from Amanda Hayworth. Focusing her visions through her camera lens, she reveals secrets no one plans to expose, even her own. To protect herself, Mandy hides her ability in plain sight, photographing local bands and showcasing the dramatic images on her website. Most bands beg for a feature article. But the new lead singer of one particular up and coming band isn’t like anyone she’s ever met. Lucien entangles her with his mystery and makes Mandy want things she’s never wanted before—strings.
Lucien Solvak has to impress an influential music blogger whose promotion could skyrocket his new band to stardom or flush them straight into the gutters. But the moment Mandy aims her camera his direction, he fears the images will expose his ties to the immortal he’s sworn to protect and destroy his one chance to live out his musical dream. Hiding from her camera is tough enough. Denying his growing feelings becomes an impossible feat, forcing Lucien to choose between oaths as a Guardian, his rock-star dreams, and the girl he wants.

Secrets define them. Lucien’s bind him to silence; Mandy’s bring her nothing but pain and disappointment. Only when they focus on what’s behind the images can they embrace their secrets for what they are—truth.

Marne Ann Kirk's, Goddess on the Run out now from Crescent Moon Press

All I had to do was read the excerpt (below) to know I want to add this to my list of books I need to read. Teagan is a woman who doesn't put up with crap!  I already like her and I'm eager to find out what kind of trouble she gets into...

Goddess On The Run

A Tale of the Holy Water Warriors, Book 1

Available now on Amazon, B&N, and at your local bookstore!

Crescent Moon Press

ISBN: 978-1-937254-59-9

E-ISBN: 978-1-937254-60-5

All Fomorian Hells are about to break loose on earth, making human souls the daily special, if the Tuatha de Danaan can’t stop it.

Teagan, a Celtic demi-goddess hiding from her destiny in small-town Colorado, wants nothing to do with her mother’s forgotten realm or the drama of a battle of the gods. And Merric is forbidden fruit she’s too smart to taste.

Merric, leader of the Tuatha de Danaan warriors, has other plans. Teagan holds the key to salvation, for both him and their worlds, whether she wants to or not. He’ll do whatever it takes to convince her of her duty.

But can he find the key to her heart?

Reviews:

“Goddess On the Run has everything a reader could ask for—Teagan, a heroine gutsy yet vulnerable, Merric, a hero willing to die for his soulmate and their child, and a High Deamon threatening to destroy the thing they hold most dear. Kirk has fashioned a story both action-packed and romantic with characters that will stay with you long after their adventure is over.” Jeanne Stein, Best-Selling Author of the Anna Strong Chronicles

Excerpt to Goddess on the Run:

Chapter One

Great. Just fan-friggen-tabulous. Not even halfway through her shift and Teagan had an ass-grabber.

Another one.

Of course, this moron's lack of respect for personal boundaries was why she'd gotten this table of five. The girls had named her The Enforcer for a reason.

She'd let him play for a moment. He wasn't hurting her, after all. But soon he'd pay, and she'd make certain it did hurt him.

Yep, a little public humiliation, and he’d never touch another lady without her permission again.

But first, money. A girl had to have her priorities.

"Can I get you boys anything else?" she asked, setting a Corona in front of each of them.

The Friday night band sang their standard classic, "Friends in Low Places," and several patrons whooped or sang along. Lively crowd tonight--at least a couple hundred cowboys, college kids, tourists, and locals were bound to mean good tips. Everyone was lookin' for love.

Blondie, the man sitting across the table from where she stood, smiled and tossed down a hundred dollar bill. "Tequila shots?"

Mr. Hands, on her left, inched his grope further up the back of her inner thigh. If he went any higher, he'd be fondling parts of her only seen by her doctor and her vibrator.

She snapped her teeth into a grin, ignoring Mr. Hands, as she pulled the Jose Gold from one holster on her costume’s gun-slinger's belt and six shot glasses from the cartridge loops on the other hip. Between the rowdy saloon atmosphere and the waitressing costumes--leather vest, gunfighter's belt over short-shorts, Stetson cowboy hat and boots--it was no surprise Tommie's Knockers drew the largest crowd in the Canyon.

Someone cursed a stream of words his mama would’ve washed his mouth out for, on the other side of the main stage. Chaos exploded in the far section of the bar as a chair shattered and a beer bottle exploded--probably on some poor fool’s head.  A girl screamed and Teagan straightened up, glancing over. The bouncers didn’t need her help, though. Six were already hustling over and stepping in, pulling two men apart and bringing things back to order. It was under control.

So why did she feel on edge tonight? Like all hells were about to break loose.

"If you're buying one for me too, sugar," she said, shaking it off and bringing her attention back to Blondie.

When he nodded, she twisted the cap off the bottle, pouring tequila into each glass before sliding them around. The shot glass she slid to Mr. Hands barely stayed on the table. Damn. She'd hoped to distract him from his blind-man's examination of her butt--no such luck.

Nope. Yesteryear’s Quarterback just kept on going with one hand, like her backside was his winning season’s playbook.

She lifted her shot, saluted the men, and tossed it back. Oh, it burned good. Too bad her kind couldn't get drunk on human alcohol. She could use a little something right now. Something to dull the sudden itch along her spine, urging her to run without motive. She wasn't fooled. Whenever she had that itch, there was a reason.

She forced herself to smile at Blondie as she set her shooter back on the table, then tipped her head so she could surreptitiously study the bar through the shield of her bangs.

Several men milled about the dance floor, looking uncomfortable and awkward, while couples danced the two-step around them. Nothing out of place about that in a bar.

Blondie slid the Franklin across the table and tapped her hand. "Keep the change."

"Why thanks, baby. If you need anything at all, raise your hand. See the brunette, Kelly, over by the bar? She'll see to your every need." Teagan slipped the bill into a pocket inside her vest.

Time to play enforcer, and just in time. She needed to clean this mess up and go on break, if for no other reason than to unwind and figure out why she felt this strung out. If she were human, she’d worry she’d been slipped something, she was so twitchy.

Was it a full moon tonight?

She turned to face Mr. Hands, leaning down slow and low, until his eyes were level with her cleavage.

He grabbed the sides of his chair, leaning closer to her.

Right where she wanted his hands--off her body.

She let her hair fall over one shoulder. "Sweetie, sometimes a little naughty is nice, but every so often, naughty goes, well, too far. Then it’s time for a little lesson in manners. Are you up for a--” She licked her upper lip, sliding her hand up his thigh until she almost brushed the bulge in his jeans. “Lesson?”

He flushed, throwing a victorious grin at his friends. "With a body as hot as you? Hell, you can teach me manners any time."

She brought her mouth to his ear as the band finished their song. Perfect timing.

"Then here's lesson one, hon," she said in a stage whisper all his buddies would hear. She wrapped his package in her palm and squeezed her hand into a fist around it--hard.

"Touch me or one of the other girls again--," she tightened her grip even more.

His eyes bulged in pain, but he sat frozen in place. Men tended to do that when you had them by the baby brains.

"One more time, and I’ll tear your nut sack from your body and feed it to an alley cat."

Such language, but some jerks were also stupid and only understood crass.

Keeping him firmly in hand, she looked at his friends and tilted her head. "I'd feed it to the dog, but she'd barely notice the swallow."
