Third Week--Healthy Writing

Let's get going!!!  Okay, I am so motivated today!  I am happy to report in the past three weeks I have lost 5 pounds (approx. 1 1/2 pounds a week which Weight Watchers approves of).  I've gone from my size 14 pants back down to a 12 comfortably--which a month ago I couldn't get the flaps to meet to button).  My goal is back down to 10's at least.  I don't think I was ever an 8--can't remember but I'd be happy at a 10.

The power walking at 5:45 a.m. is really motivating for me.  It gets my blood pumping!  Now I just need to motivate my writing.  Last week was really difficult for word numbers.  I did work on writing but more of critiquing and revising.  So again, finding the balance on that is difficult.  Plus life got in the way a bit more than I expected.  Hoping this week is a slower pace while getting my daughter ready for her Junior year of high school next week.  (Back on schedule a bit.)

I love hearing from you all so post your comments when you can!

Hugs and best writing!!

Second Week of Healthy Writing Begins!

Wow!  So many things in the 'writing fire' that keeping on track this week is going to be a challenge in itself!

Many of my wonderful groups and friends who write are focusing on great endeavors to boost their Work In Progress (WIP).  Everything from 1K1H's, #amwriting on Twitter, and even a Fast Draft challenge is going on!  There is no shortage of ideas for getting the motivation to write.  I also have two critique groups and a chapter meeting this week to keep me even busier with my writing motivation.

Plus I am in the need of revising and resubmitting my story, Wanted: One Ghost for an interested editor in which I am really excited about.

So, if for some reason I am not blogging my usual posts--please bear with me.  I think this week I will only blog 3 times here on my blog site for Healthy Writing.  Don't let this distract you from your goals and working towards self-motivation.

Remember to take time to exercise, eat properly and  spend time with loved ones.  (In other words, don't forget about the real world outside of our characters.) :)  And know that I am there with you in spirit, hope and love.

All the best to you!

Day 5 of Healthy Writing--Sorry about Day 4 (Lost it somewhere)

Yeah, yesterday was a wash for me.  My brain fried halfway between trying to figure out revisions and seeing my house suffering from again--too much BICHOK (Butt In Chair, Hands On Keyboard).  I have been getting my morning exercising in but when afternoon rolls around I have been emersed in writing or brain storming.  It was sad when my daughter came down the other night and said, "Hello Mom--good to see you too.  Good night." I looked at the clock to see it was 11:30pm. (and yes, I'd forgotten to eat dinner. Thank God my daughters are self-sufficient!)

On that note, I've had a few of you ask about the weekend and if we are keeping track.  That is totally up to you on an individual level.  Personally I treat my writing as a 5 day a week job--with some weekend activity due to critique meetings, etc. but I try to keep my weekends for strictly for family.  So you should too!  :)

Take care!

Day Three of "Healthy Writing"--Hey, I'm Still Here!

Arrrrgggghhh!  I'm being attacked by sticky notes!  My desk is littered with vibrant, florescent pink sticky notes and I had to get away this morning before they feasted on my face.  Tried to post while I was sitting at a favorite coffee spot a few blocks away but the wi-fi was giving me issues so sorry for the delay.

Some of you have contacted me with ideas of needing to edit as we write for the 1K1H times.  I understand.  I too am facing a revamp of my goals and editing so if anyone has ideas post your comments here to share.  I was thinking maybe doing pages of edits one of the hours at least but that was just an idea.  Remember, this is your pace--everything I'm doing is just suggestions and ideas.

I will post my brag today--I've lost two pounds since I started my goals/pre-goals last week and have gotten three chapters more (eight in all so far) for my latest book.  For me, that's pretty good.

I'm hearing great things from you all in emails so share what you can (or want) with others here too.  The more the merrier.

As we say in the Navy for a job well done--Bravo Zulu to you all!

Day Two of "Healthy Writing"--Going Strong!

Sorry I am a bit behind today in posting.  Most of you are in the writing mode already as my clock reads: 12:08pm (EST) and I know we are scheduled to do our first 1K1H at this point.  I've had an exciting morning!  But I will not dwell on it just yet,  too much work to be done.

We will be having scheduled times for 1K1H throught the day and I will try and keep this schedule for most of our days (unless there is an issue and these times do not work for majority of us in the long run).  I have scheduled for today:

1st 1K1H for 12:00-1:00pm
2nd 1K1H for 3:00-4:00pm
3rd 1K1H for 7:30pm-8:30pm
4th 1K1H for 9:00pm-10:00pm
These times are all (EST).

Just a word--please, if these times don't work for you, go for it when you can! Send in your totals either when you do an hour or at the end of the day--either way we want to see!

I wanted to congratulate all those who joined me yesterday in our first day sessions.  I am posting some kudos to Pintip for her awesome word count total at 4,253 yesterday (on top of a case of Jet Lag from coming back home from international travel).  And Kathy for her total of 2,125 words yesterday.  Great job ladies!

Don't forget though, this is not just about writing--this is about our overall well-being too.  Don't forget to post what you've accomplished for exercise and good healthy habit changes.  Your comments here will help others boost their confidence and share in the overall good will.

Hugs!

Let's Begin!--Day 1 of Healthy Writing.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Are  you ready to go?  You've got your goals in sight and your attitude is positive, right?  Good!  Positive attitudes are what we need!  We can do this!

As of last week I was able to keep my pre-start goals.  (We won't discuss this weekend though--I think I enjoyed a cupcake or two from a party and a couple of adult beverages that may have dipped into my 49 point allowance Weight Watchers now gives me a week on their new points program.)  I didn't do my normal routine either.  But I'm back into the groove today.

I want to thank my friend Virginia Paige for joining me this morning on my walk at 6:00 a.m.  I look forward to tomorrow morning too!  I've had my cereal, two 12oz glasses of water and my vitamin so I'm ready to edit this morning and looking forward to doing the first of many writing/goal setting challenges today at noon (EST).

I will be on Twitter (@LoniLynne1) if you all want to join me--I will also post of Facebook (LoniLynne) and sending emails around that time.  If you want to join in we will try and do what a friend of mine refers to as 1K1H (1,000 words in 1Hour).  Post in either comments here or on Twitter/or Facebook what you've accomplished.

Anyone can post if they feel the need to start one whenever and we'll see who wants to jump on the band wagon.

My writing goal is to finish the first draft of my novel, "Save Me" by the end of August and finish re-writing my first novel, "Immortal Heat" by the end of September.  As far as personal goals, I'm looking on getting down 10 pounds or drop two pant sizes by mid September.  Baby steps.

Good luck and hope to hear from you all soon!

Only a Few More Days! -- Enjoy the Weekend!--See You on Monday!

Posting my final blog before we actively go into "Healthy Writing" mode on Monday.
I am excited about this endeavor and hope you are too.

If you haven't had a chance to set your personal goals for both the personal and the writing side of this plan, please do so over the weekend so you are fresh to go Monday.  This may be trial and error for many of us so if you find your goals are too much or not enough, re-adjust when and where you need to.  If you can't do a half an hour of exercise, try for ten minutes.  Same with the writing.  As I said previously we will try for a couple of hour sessions throughout the day (more if you prefer) but I will try for one during daytime hours and again for after working hours for those who also work a hectic day schedule.

I will ask for anyone who would like to take a lead to do so with comments--if you find you have questions or an answer to someones question--please respond.  I may not have the answer.  This is for all of us to enjoy and fellowship with others too.

I will post here, on Twitter, Facebook and on emails (however you prefer) when we are in writing mode for a timed writing event.  But if you aren't available at those moments--feel free to post when you are--others might be on-line at that point to and wish to join in.

I'm looking forward to learning from you all and sharing in successes throughout!  Enjoy the weekend!  See you Monday!

Planning a Start and Starting a Plan

So far I've gotten a start on how my goals are going to be set on August 8th.  This week is a trial and error for me--and as always, life somehow gets in the way.  Today it was running my daughter around and having one of her friends stop in for some help on a party she's planning for her boyfriend, right when I was settling in for setting some writing goals.

I have decided walking at 5:45a.m is the best time for me to get my exercising in.  I do roughly 2 miles in under half an hour so I feel pretty good getting that into my morning, first thing.   I am a morning person so scheduling exercise first thing is best--that way 'life's distractions' are still sleeping.  :)

My writing is going well.  I've finished two chapters in the past two days.  I managed to get in a total of just over 3,000 words yesterday, do some editing, and read a bit--and still have dinner on the table when my oldest daughter came home from work.

Here is what I have for a plan so far:
  • Waking up at 5:30 a.m. for 5:45 power walk. Make bed and pick up dirty clothes before heading out. (Back at 6:30a.m.) and first glass of water.
  • Breakfast, coffee and getting everyone up (due soon with youngest getting ready for Junior year of high school).
  • A quick brain game (I do crosswords, suduko, etc.) Cup of coffee #2.
  • Toss in a load of laundry and take shower.  Go over any paperwork, quick cleaning of kitchen, etc. (minor cleaning--helps keep major cleaning down to  a minimum).
  • Run errands (this is usually right around 9 a.m. so most places are open and it's first thing.)
  • By the time I return I grab a mid morning snack (apple and peanut butter are a favorite) and another glass of water--I love the new Mio flavor enhancers to add to a bottle or a glass of water. Check laundry.
  • I sit down and go over edits, blog, check emails, tweet, etc.
  • Now it is usually around noon.  I sit down and try to do a goal settting plan with a good friend of mine.  She's got me into a 1k1h (1,000 words in 1hour goal) challenge.
  • At 1:00 I stop for lunch, catch up with laundry and a bit more housework and another glass of water.
  • Around 2:00 I try for another 1k1h before I have to prepare for my DH to return (if he's not away on business), or I have a few more minutes to work on goals.
  • By 5:00p.m though--it's family time.  Dinner, conversation, quality time, television, etc.
If I can stick to this plan, knowing life will get in the way--I at least have a semi-plan to how I would like to see my day go.  I have to remember what a friend told me recently,  something about 'screw the Muse!  Sit myself in my chair and write!' We can't depend on inspiration to take hold, we need to be able to have the tools there to prod our Muse at times.  Not only that, if we are serious about writing then we need to treat it as a serious endeavor.  This is our career for many of us.  Just like any 8 hour a day job--we get up, get dressed, go to work and . . . work.  We owe it to ourselves to make this work.

God, Weight Watchers and Me--Count Down/ 7 Days

No one can do it alone--especially not me!  I need friends, family and that size 10 pair of jeans in my closet I once fit into, to motivate me.

So this morning I asked for a higher power to help me--that's right God and Weight Watchers.  I'm going to see how the on-line system helps me. (They had a special going this week only.)  With my crazy schedule (trying to find time to fit life, writing and staying healthy all into a day) every little bit helps.

This is my personal status and I'm not trying to promote any one plan for anyone out there.  Please, remember before you start any exercise/health changes to contact your doctor to see what is right for you.  The goals we are setting are not any one kind--this program is just set up to share in our own personal motivational routines of finding the balance between our goals as a writer and those of staying healthy for us and our loved ones.

Can you imagine how wonderful it will be to have the energy and endurance to finish that future RITA novel or NYT's Best Seller?   And when we walk across the stage to receive our awards--hey we will be that curvy woman in the red dress!  Ohhh yeah! :)

I'm still looking for ideas, recipes (especially quick and easy ones) and any information you would like to share that pertains to "Writing Healthy" for daily blogs.  Anyone who would like to post or possibly be interviewed (I've never had an interview on my blog!) please, let me know this week for upcoming blog days.  I will try to have a daily blog (so the more the merrier) but if not we will have at least three posts a week.

Good luck and remember--7 days from now we will actually begin. (But if you are already in the swing of things--great job!  Keep it up!)

Hugs and Healthy Writing!  :)
